Pope Joan is a band with lo-fi sensibilities with a punk rock punch and isn't afraid of a dance rhythm. This three piece band plays three chord ballads, protest anthems, and 100 watt love songs dressed up in angry indie attire.
Recorded in Jesse’s basement by Sacha, this album is about insecurity, uncertainty about the future, mental health, social rituals, dealing with struggles and overcoming them. But this is no “poor me” record. Happy and Relaxed pushes the listener to look inward and identify what systems are in place that make us feel so lost and find ways of seizing back that precious real estate in our minds.
Drawing from 60’s bops and proto-punk bangers, the result is not quite punk rock, indie rock or power pop, but a fresh amalgamation of the three. Brought to you by Rhodehouse Records.
